CEA is committed to fostering opportunities for Hong Kong students to comprehend China's educational development. Through multifaceted activities, we stimulate profound reflection on educational issues. Annually, we implement specialized programmes for local secondary students, and university students, including "HKU Cultifuture Education Ambassador Scheme," “School Talks" and “Orientation Day". These events are designed to broaden intellectual horizons, guide critical reflection on education's societal significance, and deepen understanding of grassroots educational landscapes.
Launched in 2010, the "HKU Cultifuture Education Ambassador Scheme" has engaged over a hundred Hong Kong secondary students. In 2025, we expanded our plan to university students in HKU. This distinctive initiative is structured upon three foundational pillars – Cognitive, Awareness and Proactive Engagement, delivering intensive exposure to grassroots educational challenges and poverty-related dynamics through meticulously curated activities. These include educational lectures by HKU professors, video exchanges with partner schools in the Chinese Mainland, interactive workshops and heartfelt card creation initiatives.
Distinct from traditional classrooms, the “HKU Cultifuture Education Ambassador Scheme” prioritises perspective-taking, enabling participants to viscerally appreciate the challenges confronting underprivileged students in the Chinese Mainland. We further empower students to engage in tangible educational improvement initiatives, such as volunteer teaching programmes assisting economically disadvantaged youth lacking educational resources or facing scholastic discontinuation risks. Participants additionally spearhead advocacy campaigns across campuses and communities to galvanise public consciousness regarding these critical issues.
In addition to the HKU Cultifuture Education Ambassador Scheme, our executive committe members regularly conduct thematic talks at secondary schools across various districts in Hong Kong each year. These talks provide an accessible introduction to the current state of education in the Chinese Mainland in rural areas, sharing our work experiences and observations from working in the region. We aim to encourage students to reflect on their own educational opportunities and raise awareness about educational inequality. By presenting real-life stories and data, we hope to inspire Hong Kong students to cherish their learning opportunities and, when capable in the future, take personal initiative to serve underprivileged groups in society.
Before the start of each new academic year, we hold an Orientation Day to welcome incoming freshmen. Freshmen participate in a series of interactive activities, including HKU Orienteering, Life Simulation and the Detective Game. These interactive experiences strengthen teamwork, encourage exploration of the campus, and help students build lasting friendships with peers who share similar aspirations. By thoughtfully blending learning with play, the event deepens participants’ awareness of and prompting reflection on, the current conditions in underdeveloped educational areas in the Chinese Mainland. Through their genuine efforts, students collectively compose a memorable chapter of Orientation Day and quietly plant the seeds of a sustained commitment to educational support.
